Anyone can call Reggie Bush, AJ Hawk, or D’Brickshaw Ferguson a can’t miss prospect, but here are guys likely to be selected outside the 1st round who will make their GM’s look like geniuses down the road.
Claude Wrotten, DT LSU- A one man wrecking crew at DT, Wroten and his teammate Kyle Williams were the foundation of a dominant Tiger defense. Claude’s an effective inside pass-rusher who’s also made plenty of plays in the run game. Off the field issues including drug charges dismissed on a technicality will keep Wrotten from breaking the bank in the 1st round.
Mike Hass, WR Oregon State - Hass finished his Beaver career with 3 consecutive 1,000+ yard receiving seasons. While his speed will never be described as “world class”, I never saw this guy caught from behind. If he can put one hand on the ball, he’ll catch it. It’s a weak draft for WR’s, and outside of Santonio Holmes, I don’t see any proven commoditities. Hass may start out as a slot receiver but I suspect his superior hands and route running will have his QB’s attention.Jonathan Scott, LT Texas - The anchor of a Longhorn offensive line that never allowed Vince Young to be touched in the passing game. Scott carries his 6’6 frame well and is quick enough to pick up blitzing LB’s. He has work to do in the run game, but his athletic gifts make him a valuable 1st day selection at tackle.
Greg Eslinger, C Minnesota - The OL signal caller for a tenacious Golden Gopher running attack, his 285 pound frame makes him vulnerable to bull rushes. In a zone-blocking scheme, his technique can overcome his lack of size. A peerless leader who started four years in college, if Eslinger can put on weight, he could be a 10 year starter up the middle.
