Notes from Tues. Sep. 26

--- The Cardinals opened their final home stand of the regular season with a one-run loss to the Padres, their fifth one-run loss in their previous eight games. They lost four games on the road trip on the final pitch of that game.
--- The Cardinals are the only team in major league history to have two eight-game losing streaks in a season and not drop out of first place during either of them.
--- Former Longhorn football player Ramonce Taylor pleaded guilty Tuesday to marijuana possession, stemming from his May 14 arrest in Bell County. Taylor pleaded guilty to a state jail felony of possession of 4 ounces to 5 pounds of marijuana, the Bell County district attorney’s office said. A state jail felony is punishable by 180 days to two years in state jail and a fine of up to $10,000. Taylor will be sentenced Nov. 2.

--- Compiled by The Rocky Mountain News, the SHNS Heisman poll is the longest-running weekly Heisman poll in the country, in its 20th year. The final poll in December correctly has predicted the Heisman winner 16 of the previous 19 seasons. There are 10 voters, two from each of five regions of the nation, who vote for five players each week. The tabulations are on a 5-4-3-2-1 basis, with five points for a first-place vote, four points for second, etc. First-place votes in parentheses.
