Last night's Rockets domination of Panathinaikos once makes me wonder how George Karl and Larry Brown could have failed as miserably as they did against international competition. The Rockets absolutely dismantled a well-coached Euroleague champion in an exhibition game without Tracy McGrady. Back to the Rockets, Yao looks ready to roll already and I really can't see this team moving forward without Rafer Alston. He doesn't appear to be the liability that he was in Jeff Van Gundy's offensive system. Those last few cuts are going to be brutal and I'm convinced that GM Daryl Morey will be able to swing a deal to get several of the excess players jobs elsewhere in the league.

A terrific story is starting to unfold in Austin with former Aldine star forward Gary Johnson. After committing to UT, news hit that Johnson had some sort of unspecified heart ailment. It was going to keep him off the court and the school and Johnson were very quiet about the details and the literal life-altering ramifications of this unknown condition. But it's been nothing but good news for Johnson since and now he's been cleared for practice when the Longhorns get going next week.
