The Astros announced that Wandy Rodriguez will make the start Wednesday in St. Louis in the 2nd game of a three game series. He made just 4 starts before the groin injury sidelined him, but his 2.31 ERA is by far the best among the team's starting pitchers (Chacon's 4.11 ERA is currently the team's best.) After the 1st game of that series, the Astros will need to make a roster move - certain to be a pitcher.
Initially I figured the move would be to release Oscar Villarreal because he has been so brutal this season, but after today I doubt that'll be the case. Fernando Nieve, who joined the Astros just over a week ago has simply been far too easy to hit. He made his 4th appearance Sunday and was rocked again. He gave up hits to all 4 batters he faced, including a homer to Pat Burrell and all 4 runners scored. In 4 appearances he's allowed 10 hits, 6 runs and recorded just 9 outs. He'll be back after more bullpen work in Round Rock hopefully, because his arm is fine, his stuff is fine, he just hits too much of the plate, too much of the time.
Villarreal better not get too comfortable though since Geoff Geary is eligible to be activated from the DL on June 1.
UPDATE: Following Sunday's game, the Astros sent Nieve down to Round Rock, but surprisingly recalled Jack Cassel to take his spot on the roster. Another move will still have to be made to activate Rodriguez prior to his start on Wednesday.

Our buddy over at The Fanhouse, Michael David Smith, who joined Danny & I last week on SportsRadio 610, was there for UFC 84 over the weekend. All of his posts are great, but none likely more interesting than this one. Too bad Tito couldn't have gotten together with Jameson before the plastic surgeon and anorexia did.
Enjoy.
