He's no Angel, Milton Bradley is angry, Rack Your Balls!!

Danny & I were discussing Corey Hart - Astro Killer last night on the show. So just as Thursday's game was beginning I was researching his career production against the Astros.
50-144, .347 BAvg, 8 HR, 28 RBI, 26 R - all in just 39 games.
Naturally he pops a 3-run HR in the 2nd inning against Moehler. I'll have his updated destruction for tonight's show.

You probably heard Eric Winston yesterday on SportsRadio 610 boasting about winning the competition yesterday as the Texans took BP over at Minute Maid Park to raise money for the Boys & Girls Club. Here's the video from the Texans website.

The Astros have had five ejections this season. Angel Campos is the ump responsible for three of them. He tossed a pair of Astros in a 5-minute span on two separate calls - and it could've been three had he thumbed Lance Berkman along with Brad Ausmus and Cecil Cooper.
Ausmus got tossed when Campos, the first base ump, said Mike Cameron did not swing at the 3rd strike on an appeal call. Coop got tossed after Campos called Cameron safe on a pick-off throw from Chris Sampson and that came just moments after Quintero narrowly missed picking off Cameron with a throw from behind the plate. Cameron maintains he was safe on all 3 plays - Alyson Footer has the full recap (video) with her usual excellent coverage over at astros.com.

The Astros had better hope Campos doesn't get too many more Astros assignments b/c there are going to be issues - mainly b/c he keeps making mistakes. By the way, Coop's also been ejected by the other Angel on a play at the plate this year. That would be Angel Hernandez - who is widely recognized as one of the majors worst umpires. In his defense though, it was actually the right call. Hernandez was actually at first base that night - you'll never guess which umpire was behind the plate that You'll never guess who had the call behind the plate that night??? - Yep, Campos.

Here's another reason why I'm a huge fan of Bill Brown, Astros TV play-by-play man. Astros down 7-3, none out, bottom 6th, Berkman on 1st. Carlos Lee rips a double, Berkman tries to score from first and Lee sees the relay throw headed home so he rounds 2nd base thinking about headed for third. The throw is cut off and he gets pegged diving back to second base for the inning's first out. Quite simply it was a mistake by Lee. And that was exactly what Brown said.

Nothing more, nothing less.

He said, "That's a mistake by Lee." Very matter-of-fact. They showed a replay, he described it and they moved on. Perfectly done. Understated, he let's the game do the talking. That is a very bad decision by Lee, one that cost the Astros a run most likely (especially considering the next batter hit a HR); Lee doesn't need to get to 3rd with none out, nor did he need to insure that Berkman would be safe by forcing a cutoff. But Brown lets people like me on the radio and the scribes at the ballyard do all the bashing and critiquing. He gets excited when he needs to and is a perfect foil to Jim Deshaies. Very enjoyable broadcast, even when the team is not playing well.

Milton Bradley got angry at something a TV broadcaster said about him. So he did the smart thing and climbed the stairs and headed up to the press box. Good news - he didn't get there. Read it here - Sporting Blog
