LA Fakers finished, Celtics Champs

The final NBA game of the season sure doesn't send us into the offseason feeling all tingly over the NBA. The Celtics had a 1-pt lead early in the second quarter, 30-29. Then the closed out the half on a 28-6 run and emerged from the second half and finished off the severe beatdown of the defenseless Lakers. No defense, no fight from the Lakers. Kobe wasn't particularly good, but his teammates were worse.

The Celtics were the much better team. They played significantly harder throughout the entire series. The fact that the Lakers set a new NBA Finals mark of only 2 offensive rebounds - both of which came in the 4th quarter - is all you need to know about the difference in effort and desire from both teams. Big letdown.

Just don't be mistaken that just because the Celtics are from the East and they won the title that the East is the better conference. The Celtics and Pistons and maybe the Cavs are probably the only teams that would rank in the league's top ten that are not from the West.

What should I mention about the Astros 6th straight loss?? Not too much.
- Backe gave up another long ball - the 12th straight game he's allowed one. Only Brett Myers has given up more than Backe's 19 this season.
- Jose Valverde entered in the 8th in a tough spot with two on and protecting a 1-run lead. He was one pitch from getting out of it, but that one pitch was driven to the wall by Melvin Mora to win the game. That's 4 blown saves in 20 tries for Valverde, his first since April.
- Michael Bourn moved back into the leadoff spot and continued his stellar hitting, with 2 more knocks and 2 more runs. He's hitting .391 in June and has raised his overall average to .242. It was .181 on May 15 and he's only had 4 hitless starts in that time.

- Our soon-to-be ex-President George Bush will soon have loads of time to work on his game. Looks like he needs it. (Lion in Oil or Hot Clicks or With Leather)
- Jemele Hill is not nearly a good enough writer or TV network contributor for her to slide by with ESPN after writing "Rooting for the Celtics is saying Hitler was a victim." Nice job. (Deadspin)
The Fanhouse shares the opinion I shared on the show and they have links to the apologies and other assorted responses.
- I know this is several days old, but I had to make sure you didn't miss this. It's interview of the year quality.
