Matt Schaub was very bad when the game was yet to be decided. Two really bad interceptions seemed to lead to a reluctance to throw the ball down the field.
- Schaub's record as the Texans starter drops to 4-8. (Just 2-8 since the 2-0 start last year)
- Schaub also has 10 TDs and 11 INTs during with the Texans
- Texans allowed 5 sacks, one which led to a lost fumble. The numerous QB pressure certainly played a role in the 2 INTs. The Texans allowed only 22 sacks all year last year, just once did they allow more than 4 (5 @ SD). Duane Brown was not good.
------------------------------
The Steelers scored twice to open up the second half and if it wasn't over at the half, it was after those scores. A deflating and embarassing day.
------------------------------
(1:00) Schaub makes another brutal decision, throwing the ball directly to Troy Polamalu. The Texans defense finally comes up with a huge play. Their two best players combine to turn the tables on Pittsburgh, Mario Williams beats his man around the left side and sacks Roethlisberger and strips the ball at the same time. DeMeco scoops it up and nearly takes it the distance, Amobi Okoye was out in front of him but couldn't clear Willie Parker out of the way.
------------------------------
Matt Schaub is near perfect so far, with just two incompletions. Too bad his last completion was to Steelers LB LaMarr Woodley. Two plays later the lead was pushed to 21-0. Roethlisberger throws a dart to Hines Ward for a 13 yard scoring strike. The short drive was helped was the Texans 2nd personal foul on the defense for a facemask, this one from Travis Johnson. UGLY start. Doubt it gets any better. (PITTSBURGH, 21-0, 2Q)
------------------------------
The Steelers TD was a very easy one after the Texans gave them the ball at the 48 yard line. Not surprisingly very little resistance from the Texans defense. The following drive, Houston catches a huge break when Hines Ward is called for offensive pass interference. Not a good call, but the Texans; will take it. Several plays later the play mattered little as Willie Parker finished off the Steelers drive with a 13-yard TD run. 2 drives - 2 TDs. (PITTSBURGH 14-0, 2Q)
------------------------------
Late start for me as usual, three hours of pre-game has to be followed by lunch so sue me.
The Texans got hosed on both 3rd and 4th down by the officials who spotted the ball after a reception by David Anderson then a sneak by Matt Schaub. Schaub had the first down easily but amidst the mass of bodies the officials so it differently - even after Gary Kubiak challenged the play. If you watching the game while listening to SportsRadio 610, then you could very easily read Kubiak's lips as he screamed at the officials.
