World Series Notes
- While I agree that the notion that the All-Star game has been a more exciting and competitive game since 2003 when it began determining home-field advantage for the World Series, I still can't agree that an exhibition game should determine who gets a HUGE advantage in the World Series by not only having the series began at the home park of the team in the winning league but also the additional game is played there as well. Nonetheless, it almost made sense this year because of what happened in this year's game. Rays LHP SCOTT KAZMIR earned the win by pitching a scoreless 15th inning, while Phillies RHP BRAD LIDGE took the loss after giving up the game-winning sacrifice fly to Michael Young, scoring Justin Morneau in a 4-3 A.L. victory. Rays 3B EVAN LONGORIA played his part in the A.L. triumph by stroking a two-out RBI double in the bottom of the eighth, tying the game at 3-3.
- The winner of the first game of the World Series has gone on to win the Fall Classic 63 times (61.2%)…That has been the case in 10 of the last 11 World Series beginning 1997 with 2002 (San Francisco defeating Anaheim) the lone exception…It has also occurred in 12 of the last 14 and 17 of the last 20 Series.
- Among the 13 previous clubs that played in seven-game League Championship Series, the record of those clubs in the World Series is 6-7…the good news for the Rays is that last year the Red Sox went 7 games in the LCS, then won the title, and in 2006 the Cardinals played a 7-game LCS then won the title.
- The Rays were the second team in Major League history and just the fifth team in the four major sports to advance to its League’s Championship series the year after having the worst record in the League…None have gone on to win the League Championship.

The Chiefs finally get it. Everyone else in the NFL knew Brodie Croyle was no good about two years ago.

Here's the story of the gun-wielding nutjob in Lubbock at a youth soccer game.

So Andre Davis is out for three weeks after surgery on his dislocated ring finger. The Texans could use Jacoby Jones on kick returns in addition to his punt return duties, or they could with starting running back Steve Slaton. I think the Slaton idea is one the team will recognize is not a good one. While using either of them or David Anderson would not require the team to make a roster move, I would probably favor the singing of RB Ryan Moats from the practice squad and using him to return kicks. He doesn't have a ton of experience from his Philly days, but I'd give him a shot and preserve the other guys for their work on offense.
