Quick Texans thoughts after Saints beatdown

The Texans preseason schedule was setup perfectly to actually give us a real good indicator of the Texans defense. Playing the Saints and next Monday night's game against the Vikings will be a real test of the Texans defense, even in the preseason. They'll enter next week's game with a grade of F. The 1st team defense was completely dominated by the Saints offense.

They could not stop the run at all, Mike Bell - their 3rd teamer - torched them for 100 yards on just 10 carries. The Saints gained a shade under 10 yards a pop on their 18 first down plays in the first half - yes nearly TEN YARDS per play on first down. Their tackles were getting blown off the ball consistently - Okam, Okoye - all of them.

Little pressure was put on Brees, their only first half sack was erased by a Kubiak challenge and even Joey Harrington picked them apart. Heck - his only three first half incompletions were on three spikes of the football.

The first team offense again showed they can really move the ball, Schaub continues to look all over the field, hitting 5 different receivers. His TD toss was a very well designed and executed play. Schaub rolled out to his right, all the action came with him, but David Anderson sat down in the middle of the defense caught a short toss and took it 6 yards straight up the middle for the score. Slaton had some real nice runs, showed the same power he surprisingly displayed a year ago.

Still very concerned about Dan Orlovsky. He rarely steps into his throws, causing them to float often. He still seems very uncomfortable in the pocket. He did have several nice throws, including his 23-yard TD toss to Andre Davis, which he placed right over the shoulder of the defender in the front corner of the end zone.

Here's some thoughts from Paul Kuharsky from ESPN on the 1st half.
