Bud Selig decides not to change the call that would've have given the Detroit Tigers their first perfect game in team history. It would have taken some of the burden from Jim Joyce, who was in tears yesterday as Armando Galarraga brought out the line-up card before the Tigers-Indians. Joyce then stepped the behind the plate and did his job well, like he's been doing for the last couple of decades.
Much more importantly (I guess), he released a statement regarding the future of instant replay, That statement said MLB will "examine our umpiring system, the expanded use of instant replay and all other related features" in the wake of the blown call. He said he'd consult with baseball's labor unions and the game's special committee for on-field matters before announcing any decisions."
Selig added, “it is vital that mistakes on the field be addressed.” He can't really just be realizing this, can he. We've spent hours and hours on this topic on the air over the years. Not just this year or last year, but for a long time. The technology is there and has been there for years. It has become basically impossible to argue against the extended use of instant replay unless you are ok with easily correctable mistakes.
Great breakdown of the instant replay debate and it's uses moving forward from Jeff Passan over at Yahoo! Sports.
Re-alignment in college football is going to happen - that seems very clear. So where will Texas, Texas A&M and others end up. Orangebloods.com broke the story yesterday that the Pac-10 has made an offer to bring UT and others in. That's a subscription site, so here's all the info in the Austin-American Statesman on what it all might mean.
We mentioned this story yesterday, it's probably worth another look from you. So check out the woman who claims she was fired for being too HOT!!
