Texans lead Chargers 20-14, 1st half thoughts

That's the best the Texans offense has looked in the first half all season. They only had one first half TD in their last 3 games combined; they should've had 3 today if not for Arian Foster's TD reception just before the half getting overturned by the silly continuation rule on receptions.

The Chargers led the league in yards allowed coming to the game, the Texans cranked out 172 yards in the first half - and that's with Schaub looked pretty poor until the final drive. Schaub find James Casey on a nice 33 yard gainer down the middle of the field during the final drive, but also got away with a throw at the goal line. He was looking for Casey for 6, but LB Stephen Cooper made a nice break on the ball and nearly pick-6'ed it.

The defense is another story - they are lucky the Texans offense had a couple of loong 2nd quarter drives, because they are struggling to stop Philip Rivers. They also got an assist from Norv Turner with all his running plays. Rivers had zero incompletions until his final pass of the half which was followed by a punt. Still, San Diego was trying to be balances and ran the ball 11 times instead of letting Rivers continue to torch the Texans.

Kareem Jackson will continue to get b[icked on by every team in the league, because he's always giving teams new film of him getting torched. Today it was Seyi Ajirotutu who rolled past KJ for a 55-yard TD catch.

The Texans took advantage of the worst special teams in the league. They blocked a punt for the first time since 2004 and scored on the very next play. They also forced just their 7th turnover of the season, when Bernard Pollard stripped Ryan Mathews of the football. That was turned into another Foster TD run.

I said on Friday's show, the Texans simply could not beat the Chargers today unless they won the turnover battle. So far that's the reason they lead this game at the half.
