Tids & Bits

ROCKETS/NBA
-- Can you believe it, the Rockets actually won at home. The good news is they won a game and didn't even play well. That basically is the first time that has happened all year. They made just 3 shots in the 4th qtr, yet managed to never give up the lead. It helped a great deal that during pregame warm-ups Bucks leading scorer Michael Redd decided his back spasms were going to keep him out of the game.
-- As far as the playoffs go, consider this. The Rockets are 16-29, still the worst in the West.
If they go 26-11, that puts them at 42-40. New Orleans would have to 18-19 or worse for the Rockets to pass them and they'll have to play 6 games better than Utah, 5 better than Golden State, etc...etc...(I.E. it's still not likely that they head to the playoffs.
-- I did a little TV interview with NBA TV last night. Peter Vecsey and remember 2001. He labled the trade of Mike James as a bad move, and once again indicated that he is less than impressed with Yao. He's like the rest of the national media who knows very little about Yao progress and capabilities in the NBA. His career numbers 16.7 ppg, 8.6 rpg, this year 19.8 & 9.2. I don't really see a problem. He plays with T-Mac so he's never going to be the go-to guy or the dominant force that his critics seem to think he should be.
SIGNING DAY
-- Guess what every coach in the country delivered yesterday...delivered the same sound bite. "We are really excited about the group of guys that decided to join our program." Well except for Philip Fulmer from the other UT.
SUPER BOWL
-- Finally some trash-talking to spice up this Super Bowl. The matchup itself should be plenty intriguing, but it's just simply generated very little pregame buzz. Well, Seahawks TE Jerramy Stevens spoke his mind and said it'll be a shame when Jerome Bettis ends his career in his home city of Detroit with a loss. And this finally set off Steelers LB Joey Porter who never shies away from the chatter. Porter is focused right in on Stevens, saying that the 'Hawks better not run any plays that call for Stevens to pass-block or run-block Porter because it ain't gonna work. Alright now let's get it on!!

i dont see how the team gets better by trading yao. yao and t-mac plus a rebounder (which they don't have), plus a strong PG (which they may have in alston), plus a strong shooter (which they don't have) equals championship quality team. any pkg with any other players on this team to land those 2 missing parts is what they should be looking at by feb 23rd trade deadline.
I hope the super bowl is as we both hope - entertaining and competitive.
