Future Astros (non-pitchers) currently at Round Rock???
--- Josh Anderson, OF
Season: .284 Avg, .343 OBP, 27 SB-4 CS
Notes:.309 in April, .213 in May, .307 in June, .357 in July
4th rd pick in '03. 78, 50 and 43 steals his last 3 minor league seasons
Outlook:Willy T clone, just slightly worse across the board, bats left. Leadoff hitter more suited for the 80's, not present day.
--- Mark Saccomanno, 1B, 3B
Season: .285 Avg, 13 HR, 52 RBI
Outlook: only gets a look b/c team might not have anything better, has done nothing special in 4 minor league seasons or maybe b/c he went to Baylor!!
--- Brooks Conrad, 2B
Season .218 Avg, 12 HR, 44 RBI, 83 K in 326 AB
Notes: Tremendous '06 season hitting .267 with 24 HR, 94 RBI, 40 2B, 15 3B. But has slumped terribly this season and is 27 years old, never been to the bigs.
Outlook: Hello, playing 2B in this organization is stupid. Was never a highly regarded prospect and this season has likely soured the club on any belief in him being a major league contributor
--- Cody Ransom, INF
Season: .271 Avg, 14 HR, 56 RBI
Notes: career minor league avg(9 seasons) is .237, career major league avg(4 seasons) is .238. and he's 31
Outlook:No major league future with the Astros. Loretta, Burke, Everett and Bruntlett are all far superior to Ransom.
Should I go on? Barren. Bereft of surefire talent at AAA. Personally I'd give Anderson a chance as a 5th OF and I just happen to like middle infielders with some pop so I'd be curious enough to give Conrad a shot, but he's no prospect anymore.
I'll take a look at the pitching prospects at AAA tomorrow and then keep moving down the line to Corpus Christi, Salem and Lexington. The good news is it only gets better after this review of position players at Round Rock.
