Briles going North & South, Rockets back?, video fun

I was at Reliant Stadium yesterday, listening to UH head coach Art Briles talk about the upcoming Texas Bowl for his team. At that particular time - that was his team - less than 24 hours later - his team is the Baylor Bears. Several reports have Briles accepting a $18 million contract to run for the next ten years. That's well over double the annual salary he was set to make at UH - so who could blame him.

He's literally traveling North to coach in Waco, but he's actually traveling South in terms of wins and losses. Over the last 9 years, all in the Big 12, Dave Roberts, Kevin Steele & the recently fired Guy Morris, have led the Bears to 25 wins. That's less than 3 wins a season. I'm talking overall, including crappy non conference games that Baylor doesn't even win regularly.

This is unquestionably the worst program in the conference and among the least successful among all BCS schools. There is nowhere to go but up, so good luck to him. As far as all the conjecture about whether this is in Briles' best interests if he wants to ultimately land a head coaching job at a big-time program - I don't think this will affect that endeavor negatively, since I don't think that's in the cards for him anyway. His next step to a big-time head coaching gig is to land an offensive coordinator position at a national championship caliber school.

It's about time the Rockets figured out that games are decided in the 4th quarter. They beat the Clippers last night by dominating the final 12 minutes both offensively and defensively. The game was tied at 61 before the Rockets went on a 20-2 run over a span of 5 minutes to raise their record back above .500. T-Mac had a nice mix of drives and jumpers to post 19 4th quarter points on his way to 36 in the game - his 6th 30-pt game of the season already.

The performance by Rafer is what is really scary. If he played that way all the time, then there'd be no one clamoring for changes in the backcourt and no chants of "We want Steve, we want Steve." He had 17 pts, 9 assists and just 1 turnover in 40 minutes. But it was still more about the way he played. He took the ball to the basket and I mean all the way to the basket, floating I believe just 1 tear drop. He played with offensive confidence, without taking ill-advised shots. Too bad I have no faith that games like these will be reproduced. Did I mention his counterpart Sam Cassell left the game after 4 minutes due to a leg injury and he was replaced by Dan Dickau and Brevin Knight - enough said.

Here's some video fun...
Mr. Mittens aka David Carr can't be enjoying his second NFL stop. The home crowd was chanting "Moore, Moore, Moore!!" as in Matt Moore, the worthless undrafted, oft-released 3rd string quarterback serving as Carr's back-up. Carr's postgame explanation of what he heard and his condescending response to questions about the offense are equally hilarious...

No reason to pay attention to NC State anymore, now that their best player ever was already turned into a $50 million player - haha. But apparently the program is still good for the best referee explanation of the season.

Eric Cartman finally gives us a reason to give to watch the line-ups being introduced during an ABC college football telecast.
