History not good for Rox, GM Wade dealing, Mario vs. Reggie is silly

The Rockets get the Spurs, Suns, Mavs and Heat over the next week's time and are lucky to see them all without T-Mac b/c of the elbow injury he suffered against the Lakers Wednesday night. They are 11-39 (.220) without him the last 2 seasons. They're 132-73 (.644) when he suits up. It's time for the gang that can't shoot straight to find their range and knock down some shots. Bonzi (.379), Battier (.371), Head (.364), James (.326) & Alston (.315) are enduring a phenomenally bad stretch shooting the ball. The real bad news is that most of these shots are layups and wide open 3's.

Except for trying other players ....hint, hint, hint...coaching hasn't really been the problem. Even though the offense looks strikingly similar to last year's version, they almost assuredly would be 9-0 if they could just hit open shots. Their defense has been good, but their offense has been very unspectacular. Granted the the 3 worst defensive games have been in the 3 losses, just let the season play out just a little bit more before we make concrete decisions on Adelman.

I really don't think anyone should consider this weekend's Texans-Saints game should be looked at as Mario vs. Reggie since most people don't take players who aren't the best on their teams, or even close, and say that's the matchup to focus on. Both have been competent, but neither has produced like teams hope their top picks should. Bush has had a ton of remarkable plays, not a ton of remarkable games. Mario has basically had neither.

This game is a really bad matchup for the Texans, considering Dunta Robinson is done for the year and the Saints over the last 5 weeks have been the league's most effective passing operation this side of New England. Big Marques Colston and speedy Devery Henderson and David Patten are not likely to be stopped by Fred Bennett and Von Hutchins who will be making their 2nd and 1st starts respectively at the corner spots. Naturally whenever the Saints go three wides, that means Petey will be on the field : uh-oh.

The only chance I believe the Texans have is if their offense can keep up by reaching the end zone instead of settling for field goals. They'll have to do it without Ahman Green, who had his knee act up again following limited practice this week. Hey Gary - Green should not do anything for the team except on Sundays. But look for a heavy dose of Dayne on Sunday. Even though he produced, I just can't be excited about seeing Dayne tote the rock on Sunday. Hopefully Adimchinobe Echemandu will get some serious looks throughout.

Trader Ed is still working the phones, trading CF Josh Anderson to the Braves for reliever Oscar Villareal. Anderson might be a decent major leaguer, but the Astros have already committed to Anderson. So trading him makes sense. Villarreal has been a very good reliever the last 2 seasons and is only 26 (when next yr begins). From the Atlanta point of view, here's what the first blog post on AJC had to say about adding Anderson.

Wade also acquired a guy from San Diego who's not much offensively, but can do this in CF.

Unless you're a beaver (OSU Beaver, I mean), how could you not feel bad for Dennis Dixon and the Ducks last night. Their offense looked as unstoppable as ever with him in the game. Only a pass that Dixon's WR bobbled in the end zone that resulted in an INT, kept the score from being 15-0 when Dixon planted his left knee, it buckled and his season likely was lost. Obviously the game was. Doug Flutie had an astute observation reminding viewers the backup Brady Leaf was not recruited for this offense, thus a terrible fit. Tack on a weak ankle and Leaf's performance was a total disaster.

By the way, as I said before that game last night, despite currently being #2 in the BCS, I felt it was Kansas and not Oregon who controlled their own destiny. This loss merely opens the door for all the other 1 loss teams. Especially in the Big 12. Whichever of the 3 (OU, Kansas or Mizzou) wins out is the best bet to make the title game, regardless of all other teams and their results.

But back to the Oregon game, Could someone please tell me who was handling the crowd control on the 'Zona sidelines during the final 30 minutes of the game when the entire lower bowl watched the fourth quarter from the field mingling and taking pictures with the Wildcats' players.

And one more thing, even if Dixon had not gotten hurt, the player with the best NFL future in that game likely was Antoine Cason. the superstar CB from Arizona who found the endzone twice last night. Check the highlights.

The '72 Dolphins team just loves it when an undefeated team starts a season 7,8, 9-0 or whatever. Don Shula had his asterisk take and now Mercury Morris is spewing stuff that tells us to wake him when the Patriots get to 16-0. This is outstanding.

Playboy is once again making sure we are focused in on the key ingredients to a strong reporter. How much heat does she bring?? Jeanne Zelasko? Are you kidding? (It shouldn't take a genius to figure out this link might be NSFW.) Just so you know they missed a big one, Shannon Spake.

What is the NBA trying to do to Tim Duncan? Good thing Duncan really doesn't care.

It's all over for the Curb Your Enthusiasm season 6. Here's a couple of Leon's finest moments.
