NightShift NBA Mock Draft (ongoing)

Our on-air mock is underway and here it is...

1. Chicago - Derrick Rose - This pick makes total sense, even with Kirk Hinrich under contract for the next 4 years. This is a franchise changer. Don't be fooled by his pedestrian numbers in his lone college season. He did what was needed to win. Surprisingly quick, outstanding ball-handler, excellent decision maker.

2. Miami - Michael Beasley - It is tempting to listen to offers for #5 & Mike Miller from the Grizzlies, but Beasley should be a superstar. If they could win with Shaq & Wade, I bet they can compete with Wade, Marion and now Beasley.

3. Minnesota - OJ Mayo - The closer the draft gets the more the buzz grows over Mayo. He can really be a superstar with his incredible athleticism he brings to the backcourt. He may be a bit of a tweener, but he'll play the point for the most part and will be an excellent partner for Al Jefferson. Maybe a little Marbury-Garnett recreation to a certain degree.

4. Seattle - Jerryd Bayless - They'd be happy w/ either Mayo or Bayless. Bayless is probably the most polished PG in the draft IMO.

5. Memphis - Kevin Love - Tough call b/w Love & Lopez. Love is about as well-rounded a player you're going to find in this draft and he's just 20 years old. Seems like a guy who does all the little things right and just helps you win. You need a bucket - he gets it. A rebound? He's your man. Smart and safe pick

6. New York - Danilo Gallinari - This seems to easy just b/c of the Italian hoops connection, but I think it'll happen. Probably more overall skill than former #1 pick Andrea Bargnani. At age 19 he might not be as polished a shooter, but a more well-rounded offensive game. No surprise his defense might be lacking - but D'Antoni can live with that obviously.

7. LA Clippers - Russell Westbrook -

8. Milwaukee - Joe Alexander -

9. Charlotte - Eric Gordon -

10. New Jersey - Anthony Randolph -

11. Indiana - Brook Lopez -

12. Sacramento - D.J. Augustin -

13. Portland - Alexis Ajinca

14. Golden State - Donte Greene

15. Phoenix - Brandon Rush

16. Philadelphia - Darrell Arthur

17. Indiana - JJ Hickson

18. Wizards - Marresse Speights

19. Cavaliers - Kosta Koufas

20. Charlotte - DeAndre Jordan

21. Nets - JaVale McGee

22. Magic - Courtney Lee

23. Utah - Roy Hibbert

24. Seattle - Robin Lopez

25. Houston - Chris Douglas-Roberts - Wow, how did that happen? Way to go Rockets...

More commentary forthcoming when I get home....
