Texans-Titans Live Blog, TEN 31-12 FINAL

(3:02pm)
Okay that didn't last long - back to the negative. Schaub gets sacked on 3rd and 4 from the 5 and then on 4th down he throws a pick and a duck of a pass and Cortland Finnegan returns it 99 yards for a Titans touchdown. Look I don't want to go overboard but Matt Schaub has been a disaster this year. He was sacked three times today, but he was not under constant duress.
---------------------------------
(2:58pm)
Haven't mentioned a lot positives today, so props to Jacoby Jones for coming up with a big return at a key moment.
---------------------------------
(2:53pm)
Texans are forced to go for it on 4th down yet again, Schaub delivers his 2nd INT of the season (4th of the year). His numbers are disastrous for the 2nd straight game and quite honestly, he has done nothing in his brief playing time to suggest he is any better than he has showed. (now 4-9 as Texans starter).
---------------------------------
(2:46pm)
I can't fault Coach Kubiak for going for it on 4th down as manytimes as he has in this game (2-4), but they do seem to be using Slaton as if he's Larry Johnson or LaDainian Tomlinson. They run him up the middle as if he's going to carry the pile and they continue to dump the ball off to him, when he is going to immediately be met by at least one defender. Slaton has been great, but he is going to be wrecked on the flight back.
However, there is no excuse for his continual waste of timeouts, as they called one prior to each of their 4th down plays. He is just simply not very good with some very important time management issues.
---------------------------------
(2:11pm)
The Texans are officially a red-zone nightmare. After Schaub takes a late hit while completing a 49-yard bomb to Andre Davis. They fold up shop in the red zone yet again (now 1-of-4 on the day). On 4th and 4 from the 10-yard line, Schaub decides to go underneath to Slaton, who would have had to beat 3 guys just to make it even close. Andre Johnson sure looked like he open across the middle - but what do I know, I'm here in Houston at the Tilted Kilt!!!
---------------------------------
(2:00pm)
Really, Gary!?!? AFter the Texans defense forces the first punt of the game (not counting the one before the end of the half!!) and the Texans offense draws a penalty allowing them first down and 5 from the 19-yard line - he calls three straight runs. The Texans gain 1 yard. If you have no confidence in your quarterback then yank him. Just a really bad day for Kubiak if you asked me.
Titans turn their good field position into 3 more points. (TEN 24-12, 3Q)
---------------------------------
(1:15pm)
Gary Kubiak is looking worse and worse as an ultimate decision maker. There is absolutely no reason at all not to have thrown the red flag and challenged the catch of Justin McCareins. It's the first half - there nothing to lose. No reason not to challenge even without the benefit of the replay. Not to mention White's touchdown run on third down was worth reviewing as well. (TEN 21-12, 2Q)
---------------------------------
(1:05pm)
The Texans offense finally punches one in. Slaton converts on a 4th and 1 and then slams his way into the endzone for a 6-yard run and his first ever touchdown. Even after finally completing a pass, Schaub's passer rating is a robust 6.2. Awesome, he's 3-11 with a pick. (TEN 14-12, 2Q)

FYI - The Texans try to kick the extra point, but Bryan Pittman has his second bad snap of the day, this one Matt Turk can't handle and he of course is a disaster once that happened.
---------------------------------
(12:53pm)
The Titans march straight down the field for the 2nd time this afternoon with Bo Scaife on the receiving end of a TD toss on 3rd and 2 from Collins. Tennessee is 3-of-4 on 3rd downs and the Texans defense has forced two turnovers but they have shown no ability at all to slow down the Titans. Kind of reminds me of week one against the Steelers. (TEN 14-6, 2Q)
---------------------------------
(12:44pm)
Schaub adds 2 more awful throws to his ledger. He's now 0-6 with a pick and he fumbled the football on a bad exchange with Chris Myers. Sometimes you put poor play on the offense as a whole, but the poor start and inability to get touchdowns instead of field goals is all on Schaub.
---------------------------------
(12:37pm)
Steve Slaton busts a tackle in the backfield on the drive's first play and turns it into the Texans 2nd longest run in history. A 50-yard burst from Slaton around the left side was 1-yard shy of Domanick Davis' 51-yard run at Cincinnati on 11/9/03 at Cincinnati.
---------------------------------
(12:32pm)
Zac Diles makes a huge play forcing a fumble and DeMeco Ryans makes his second recovery of the season. So yet another opportunity for the Texans offense to respond. Anybody like their chances to turn this turnover into a TD??
---------------------------------
(12:30pm)
So what's it gonna take for Gary to just pull Schaub for the first time in his 13 starts with the Texans. He has been way off the mark on all but one of his first 4 passes. Even with time on all but 1 of his 5 dropbacks he just looks awful, and his last throw was picked off by Michael Griffin. The Texans are not nearly good enough to win if their QB keeps giving the ball away.
---------------------------------
(12:25pm)
On 1st and ten, from their own 46-yard line, DC Richard Smith called a safety blitz and C.C. Brown did a nice job, but the RB picked up the blitz. The resulting play was an 18-yard completion to Brandon Jones. But Mario Williams was15 yards downfield after dropping in coverage. That is inexcusable. What would possess the Texans defensive braintrust to purposely ask Mario Williams to drop back in pass coverage?????!!!! Insanity. Embarassing.

The Titans went for a first down on 4th and 1 inside the 5-yard line and LenDale White easily cruised into the endzone for the go-ahead score. (TEN 7-3)
---------------------------------
After the offensive went 3 and out, Jacques Reeves came up with his first INT as a Texan, but the Texans offense, despite starting at the 14 yard line, could only muster a 45-yard field goal to take a 3-0 lead.

Well at least Reeves has one more reception than Dunte, unlike the nightshifts prediction. So thats a bonus.
