Super Bowl Sunday Running Blog

ROCKETS-KNICKS
-- 11:25 Does ABC dislike Mark Jones? He drew the assignment working as courtside reporter for arguably the worst teams in their respective conferences, Rox v Knicks. Top that with the fact that it's Super Bowl Sunday (on ABC). But the icing on the cake is they made him wear a finger condom!! (or at least that's what it looked like. It's acutally what Yao wears on his toe.
-- 11:55 Great spots for Desperate Housewives. Shaq, Matt Leinart, Hefner and his multiple girlfriends. But of course the besy was that coke-head Sugar Ray Leonard opining about one fo the housewives missing the most important times in a child's life. How fitting coming from a super dad like Sugar Ray.
-- 1:20 Naturally right when the Rockets think they have the Knicks put away with a T-Mac 3 to go up 7 under a minute. They immediately allow a wide open 3 to Jamal Crawford to cut it to 4. The Rox really don't like to make things easy.
-- 1:25 Leave it to the Knicks to do eeverythign right to draw within 3, and then completely foul up their final possession to force up a horrific 3 to tie. Jalen Rose who hasn't even practiced once with the team shoots it and believe it or not it's Stromile Swift coming up with the big block. Rox win streak up to 3. And now let the Super Bowl pre-game festivities begin.
THE SUPER BOWL IS FINALLY HERE
-- 1:45 Before we get to far along in this boring chit-chat from a bunch of talking heads, my prediction, as stated on Friday's Nightshift, remains Steelers 31-20. 1 key Seahawks turnover will be the difference in a very well played game.
-- 3:40 Look I have a life so I'm not jsut sitting around typing on the computer. But I did happen to come across a sick NBA dunk from last night. Former Heritage Christian hi-flyer Von Wafer was unmercifully crushed by Kirk Snyder - who literally leapt right over him.
-- 7:52 Like I said I have a life. Went to watch the first half with a bunch of buddies, so naturally we discussed Vince vs. Reggie jsut about the entire time. Did I mention it was a bunch of 'Horns at this get together? Back to the game...which now is a game again. The Steelers had a chance to blow it open, before Gentle Ben severely underthrew Cedrick Wilson on what would have been a sure TD and a 21-3 lead. Kelly Herndon picks it off, returns it 76 yds (SB record), which leads to a TD reception for Softie Stevens. BTW..anyone notice that Rocky Bernand blew out his hamstring on the INT return??
-- 8:16 Is it me or is Hasselbeck having an extremely quiet, but extremely effective Super Bowl. He had a penalty wipe out a TD to Darrell Jackson, DJ grabs another TD ball but can't keep his feet inbounds and early in the 4th he fires one into Stevens that should've resulted in 1st & goal from the 1-yd line, but a penalty wiped that one out too. His solid day could've looked sensational -- and then he throws a horrible pick to Ike Taylor, so what do I know!
-- 8:25 I just got through saying this to my wife, that I guarantee Randle El can throw the ball further than Roethlisberger can. Big Ben is still not himself with the wrist and hand injuries and now 'Twan just proved me right with the on-the-run TD toss to Hines Ward. Amazing what the Steelers have done in the playoffs with a QB who isn't 100% healthy.
-- 8:33 What was I just saying about Hasselbeck? Nice fumble, Matt. It looks like they're going to get away with it. Watch Holmgren blow a gasket if they don't overrule this one.
-- 8:50 That is an outrageously early celebration from Bill Cowher after a 1st down. Still 3:40 to go & Seattle could still get the ball back down only two scores with a minute or two left. I'm sure it won't work out that way, but you rarely see a coach act celebrating a win with that much time on the clock.
-- 9:03 Nice job Holmgren. This just in, NFL football is a timed event, you only have 60 minutes. What the heck were they thinking not kicking the field goal. You need two scores! I understand you need a touchdown, but those plays calls were garbage, dump-offs and safety valves!! Idiotic. And they lose.
-- 9:05 Final note for the day. There's my man Tony Wyllie, Texans VP of Communications, right in the camera shot congratulating Jerome Bettis who he worked with in St. Louis. That man always knows how to get a little face time.
-- 9:07 Alright this is really the last thing. No, I didn't predict the final score right but I did get the winning margin. Steelers by 11. Note the 1:45 post.
