Baseball Not So Good Tonight

If you caught Baseball Tonight following the Astros win over the Pirates on Thursday night, then I hope you were as amazed as I was listening to the unbelievable diarrhea coming out of the mouth of Jeff Brantley and Orestes Destrade - mainly Brantley.

It is amazing how little this so-called expert knows. They spent an entire segment talking about Houston and JB talked about how the Astros miss Jeff Bagwell's leadership and how Craig Biggio just can't cut it as a leader. He said Biggio may be a future Hall-of-Famer, but he's just not the kind of leader Bagwell is, they miss Bagwell's HR leadership. Huh? What? What exactly is HR leadership? He said management actually asked Bagwell to come around and be in the clubhouse with the team because they need him there. Say what? Need him there for what?

Just because you are on TV and your mouth is moving doesn't mean anyone should believe what you are saying. So the same team that pressured Bagwell to give up on his rehab and contemplated barring him from spring training reached out to him and basically begged this essentially retired and unwanted player to come cruise by the clubhouse to provide leadership?

His direct quote..."The team lacks leadership." Even though they have Berkman, Biggio, Clemens, Pettitte, Oswalt and many others that were there for the ride to the World Series.
8 of the 11 pitchers were here last year and so were 10 of the 14 position players. So why are you talking about their lack of leadership - could that be any more inaccurate and if true then maybe simply insignificant? Saying a team that just went to the World Series lacks leadership is like saying the Miami Heat lacked a young head coach or a fifth offensive option - things that so obviously did nothing to prevent them from winning.

He says Clemens can't really be a leader b/c he just works every 5th day - so somehow Bagwell is a better example of a leader for this year's team. Nice logic genius. Maybe the hair gel you use to tame your mullet is seeping into your brain.

Hate to pick on Destrade but he is just so far in over his head - he doesn't know enough about what's going on in the game today. If he can't sound good with greasy JB sitting next to him then he has issues.

I hope the Disney sports channel had some good reasons to dismiss Harold Reynolds. I know they think we'll watch because we simply have no alternative, but with no Peter Gammons because of his brain aneurysm and no Reynolds this show is borderline unwatchable. The experts are idiots or more simply unknowledgable.

btw - now I'll endorse watching tomorrow night's edition since the 'Stros top 3 all-time web gems will be on display. Any guesses on what they might be??
