You Stay Classy San Diego

- Just as we rolled off the air last night, we were hit with the news that Marty Schottenheimer was out in San Diego. Nice timing. They were 14-2, then lost at home by 3 to New England in their playoff opener after a litany of mistakes most of which aren't on Marty. The team gives him a backhanded vote of confidence and no extension after the season hoping for continuity and then watch most of their key coaches take better jobs elsewhere. Now they fire him. The SD Union Tribune gives a couple reasons why. I'll give you one more, they're stupid. How do the players feel? LT says "he was stunned," and "it's a tremendous blow." He wasn't the only one to feel that way.
It's such a shocker and so late in the offseason that most articles written last night don't even get around to speculating on who'll be the next head coach. Here's a couple names in order of my preference...Steve Mariucci, Dennis Green, Ron Rivera, James Lofton, Mike Singletary.

- Yao Ming says he's ahead of schedule for a return to the court - but I'll bet the Rockets do their best to keep his return at a snail's pace. Honestly at this point I feel confident saying they are going to finish 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th in the West, no matter when he returns during the regular season. They are going to play either San Antonio, Utah or the LA Lakers in the first round - all of whom they can beat with a healthy Yao Ming. Take your time.
