Astros Farm Report - 4/6/07

Round Rock (AAA) - The Pence watch begins, his first hit of the season, went over the right field wall for home run. Brooks Conrad picked up his 3rd RBI of the season with an 8th inning 2B. Matt Albers got the start and despite looking good in spring training with the big club, he was awful in this one. Little control in this one, a couple of walks, a wild pitch, 5 hits, 6 runs and lasted just three innings. Also Eric Bruntlett committed his 2nd error in as many nights, not to mention he's hitless in 7 at bats.

Corpus Christi (AA) - Snowed out again, they play 2 on Saturday...maybe.

Salem (A-Adv) - W, 7-6 (11) vs. Frederick: Former #1 pick Brian Boguseivc got the start and wasn't half bad with 5 solid innings. The team set a record with 9 stolen bases, including 3 by Josh Flores and 2 each by prospects Tommy Manzella and Eli Iorg.

Lexington(A) - Like CC, their game was snowed, DH on Saturday.

- Can't help myself with a little Astros commentary. What was Garner thinking in the 7th inning??? Down 3-1, Burke on 3rd, Everett on 1st, none out. Ausmus at the dish - and Phil calls for the squeeze. Forget the fact that it didn't work - how does that play make any sense? You are down 2 runs and they have no outs. Why are you giving outs away?!?!?!? You need at least 3 runs to win, at least 3! I'm not saying you have a good chance to get them all right there, but just let the thing play out. Make the Cardinals work for the outs - don't give 'em to 'em.
Look if you have no confidence in Ausmus getting a knock that's fine - then PINCH HIT for him!! The bunt was blasted back to the pitcher who nailed Burke at the dish, but seriously the Cards know Ausmus is not up there to swing away. Naturally he bunted into a double play!! (Yes, I know Molina never tagged Burke, but the ump called him out).

Hey Wex. I feel you on the squeeze, but Ausmus has got to do a better job. For the love of god he bunted the ball right to the pitcher. Easy double play for professionals.

We all know Scraps likes to take a lot of chances. HIt's one of the reason the Astros have had so much success, but also the same reason they frustrate fans when they lose.

To me it looked like Burke missed the plate anyway while sliding through. Besides did he ever contest the call? I didn't even watched the post game I was so upset.

The offense looks like a real stinker right now. I see a Hunter Pence sighting in the near future.
