'Stros are HOT, Trojans are the Best...

- Alright, now that the streak is over, it's time for Purpura and Phil to make some easy decisions. Normally roster moves require tough decisions, that what they always say after veterans are released or players are traded, but not in this case. Orlando Palmeiro and Brian Moehler for certain have no business being on this roster anymore. Those two should immediately be released. Chris Burke and Eric Munson should be called up. Both can be useful PH and play multiple positions. Tougher decisions would concern Trever Miller, Rick White and Jason Lane. All 3 have been outrageously disappointing - in White's case he at least had a very good April before his resoundingly terrible May. He ranked 416th in ERA in the majors for May (out of 451)!
I mentioned Munson already and if not him, then certainly Eric Bruntlett. In May, he's batting .337 with six doubles and nine RBI; Jesse Garcia hit .313 and Munson batted .310. Cody Ransom drove in 22 runs with 25 hits and Mark Saccomanno belted seven home runs. Consider Mark McLemore or Stephen Randolph as very good, reasonable options for the ineffective Miller.
But doing nothing is getting old. It's time to go to work.

- The Trojans get the all-unimportant #1 preseason ranking from Athlon Sports. Any mention of the Trojans gets you pics of the song girls.
The top 10 and local interests look like this...
1. USC
2. Texas
3. LSU
4. Wisconsin
5. West Virginia
6. Florida
7. Oklahoma
8. Michigan
9. Virginia Tech
10. Rutgers
18. Nebraska
23. Texas A&M
25. TCU
- Four of those 25 are on Texas’ schedule this fall (Oklahoma, Nebraska, A&M and TCU)

Even though it seems logical, I wouldn't hold my breath that anyone will be released.

USC#1 and Texas #2? Hmmm. Both must be Texas must be playing soft schedules....Figures.
