My thoughts....
- He felt using the HGH that his father provided him was nobody's business - it was b/w Pettitte and his dad. I'd say, what about the 100's of batters you faced while enjoying the benefits of PEDs? And the fans who he flat out and completely lied to when he answered the questions while with the Astros and said that he had not used PEDs? This is what bothers me about Andy being labeled a near-hero for his admission. It only comes 4-6 years after the fact!!!

- He uttered the famous phrase, "The truth will set you free." Said he could now sleep better at night.
- When asked what he'd say to Roger right now, "He knows I have admired him and still admire him greatly. Love him like a brother. It's a horrible situation. Mac(namee) is a great friend of mine as well. McNamee told the truth about me, but I love them both dearly."
- He was asked if he knew when he signed his contract that he would be named in the report. He paused long and then said he didn't know. He asked the reporter (Mark Feinsand, Daily News) to help him with the time frame of it all. Then when informed of the timeline - he acknowledged that he did know at the time he signed his contract the he'd be named. He doesn't feel like he deceived the club.
- Q: Do you consider yourself a cheater? A:If people think think he's lying, then go ahead and call him a cheater. He said he doesn't believe he's a cheater, b/c his reasoning is to come back from injury.
My answer is of course he's a cheater. Now he's just like Bonds and Sheffield. He acknowledges that it's illegal, but that his reasons for using make it OK.
He addressed the subject again and stressed he used HGH simply b/c he was told it could repair tissue and he just wanted to get back on the mound. In hindsight he recognizes now that doctors are proving that it can make you throw harder etc.
He said it kind kind of hurt that early on news reported that he was using steroids and that hurt him. (since he only used HGH and feels the difference b/w the two is enormous.)
- Q: How'd he feel about using it the second time - the HGH from his Dad? A: Just after signing a 3-year deal with the Astros he was facing surgery 3 starts into the season, he was desperate. Stupidity is how he described it.
- He said MacNamee was the one who gave him a heads up that he'd given Mitchell information about Pettitte's use of HGH that might be included in the report.
- He was asked why not just walk away and not pitch again. He said he still wanted to play, although he doesn't have to. The Yankees, his wife and pretty much everybody wanted him to continue to play. He also said it would have been the coward's way out, to simply walk away and "not face the music."
- Stressed that he could only comment on Mac's truthfulness regarding his use, not anyone elses.
- Reaction to him at home has been tremendous in Deer Park. Said he hasn't tried to hide out, won't stay away from his kid's activities and will continue to be involved with that. Said his life at home basically just involves his church and that's about it.
- Rivera, Jeter and Posada apparently were all attending the presser in a show of support. Andy even acknowledged their presence.
- Asked why he hasn't talked to Clemens. Said it wouldn't be smart under the current circumstances, but it was strange since normally he would have talked to him and would have played golf and other things over the course of an offseason.
- Asked about Rusty Hardin's claims that Clemens had told the truth if that was an attack on Pettitte. Andy said he didn't take it as a personal attack. He can't wait for this whole situation to resolve itself.
- He acknowledged that he had never planned on bringing his dad into this. It was between him and his dad. But then again he repeated he was going to have a hard time sleeping at night if he didn't divulge it.
- He thinks if players see what Roger and he have been through, then that should be a real deterrent to those who are considering using PEDs moving forward.
- Did you know that among the top 8 active pitchers in winning percentage, 4 of them have worn the Astros jersey? Roy Oswalt (3, .675), Roger Clemens (6, .658), Randy Johnson (7, .654) & Pettitte (8, .640)
- Q: Why didn't you testify at the hearing?
A: Because I didn't want to do it. I just didn't want to, he prayed that he wouldn't have to go. It would have been extremely difficult to have to do so.
- Again he reiterated that the only reason he brought his father into this is because he was under oath. So he was fine with lying to everybody (fans, teammates, media, etc.) but not under oath to the government under penalty of law. That right there is what still ticks me off about Pettitte. That, despite his appearance today which is the first truly worthwhile conversation that has come from the release of the Mitchell report.

Just a quickie here early on President's Day.An elaborate prank on youthful pitcher Kyle Kendrick. It's great because the manager, the general manager, his teammates and the media were all in on it.
Enjoy.

Wex, HGH is BS.
1. If it was so good at injury recovery why would orthopedic surgeons not be using it? The synthetic version has been out since '85 and no side effects are known from its theraputic usage. It doesn;t work for that, otherwise the drug companies making it would push it for this use.
2. If it helped people gain strength and muscle it would be used for cancer and AIDs patients like anabolic androgenic steroids are.
Andy is a cheater cause he thought it would give him advantage, he knew it was wrong, and he still did it. And he cheated 10 mil from the Astros.
I think you're right. I get the feeling we're going to start seeing more and more people (DRs) stress that HGH isn't all its cracked up to be. I believe there are already studies that show placebo is just as is not more effective than HGH.
It's common to lump HGH and steroids into the same category when in reality they aren't the same at all.
