(6:05pm) The Texans are about to severely hamper their bid for the top choice in the draft. I mean they are about to beat the Raiders. And they are about to do it thanks to 7 completions for 32 yards from Carr. Yes, the same totals he had in the first half remain his totals for the game. He only attempted 3 passes in the second half - all incomplete and all less than 10 yards from the line of scrimmage. The team will finish the day with -5 yards passing and I'll say it before Elias says it - that's going to be a new record for a winning team in the NFL. Anyone remember the Texans win over Pittsburgh in '02 when they set the record for fewest yards in a win with 47. Well now they have another dubious one. Congratulations.

(5:45pm) If the Texans offensive line is so bad, then how come they just ran six consecutive running plays with Ron Dayne and went straight down the field for 56 yards??? Then they let Carr re-join the fun on 2nd and 3rd down plays and naturally two incomplete passes left the team facing 4th down. Kris Brown came on and botched a 41 yard field goal pushing it wide right.
The media asked Kubiak last week what he would have donw if Carr had been hurt last week in the second half. Even with Rosenfels broken thumb, he joked that he could have come in and just handed the ball off. Anyone notice that is exactly what Carr is doing in the second half today. I really do think his career as a Texan ended today.
After the special teams duo of Dexter Wynn and Jerome Mathis perfectly executed a fake reverse (only to have Dexter McCleon whiff on a block on the punter costing the team a touchdown), Kubiak os so afraid of Carr mesing things up, they called two Dayne runs leaving them with 3rd and three at the Oakland 13. They called a reverse that lost 11 yards. Obviously Carr had a chance to audible at the line b/c Kubiak ripped him a new one when he came off the field. The Texans still have -5 yards passing and they're winning now 17-14. This is about to get very, very ugly.

(4:45pm)First, an acknowledgement that David Carr is not the sole problem with the Texans. C.C. Brown cost them a TD with stupidity and Jerome Mathis showed how ready he was for the season when he pulled his boneheaded move on his first touch (or should I say muff) of the year. But Brown also forced a fumble and the expectations for Mathis are just a wee bit lower than the 5th year number one overall pick at quarterback.
Carr's fumble just before the end of the first half is unforgivable. Not because it just flat out shows his inability to recognize the situation of the game, but moreso becuase it is exactly the same thing he did several weeks ago when he single-handedly cost the Texans a game against the Titans.
(By the way I was in the middle of this when Mathis responded by returning the opening kickoff to the Raiders 3 yardline. He was caught by former UH Cougar Stanford Routt)
That is exactly the point I was headed to. At least some of the guys in Texans uniforms make plays evey once in awhile. Carr does not. His first half performance is beyond laughable. I guarantee that if Sage Rosenfels had not been put on IR before the game, Carr would be benched. The numbers themselves are enough to show his unbelievable lack of progress as an NFL quaterback. He completed 7 passes; they went for 1,5,9,7,3,2 and 5 yards. That's 32 whole yards. He also lost 17 yards on an intentional grounding call that coach Gary Kubiak chewed him out for when he came to the sidelines. He was also sacked 4 times on the final 6 plays of the half, half of which were as much on him as the offensive line.
The real problem there is he fumbled on three of those plays. Dude - recognize the situation. The defense just held the Raiders and forced then to miss a long field goal. The very next play, Carr doesn't even consider protecting the football and his fumble gets returned for a touchdown. Like I said, it was the exact same mistake he made against the Titans that resulted in a touchdown return just before the half, but much more importantly led to the first benching of his entire career. (Not the first time it was merited, but at least this coach had the guts to pull him.)
Is anyone really worried that Carr will play well somewhere else? So what if he does? It is never going to happen here. How much more evidence is needed? It's over. There's nothing else that can be done with him and this team. It just won't work. I think Kubiak is finally seeing that after 12 weeks of frustration with him. Please let these next 4 games be the last 4 that David Carr is the starting quarterback for the Texans. That is the first step is moving forward and maybe actually becoming a competitive football team. And no - competiting for the top overall pick in the draft for the 3rd time in 6 years is not what I call competitive.

In the NFL, players make the difference, but I am becoming more convinced that front office and coaching is essential.
Look at Parcells, the Patriots, Dungy, Polian, Andy Reid, John Fox, etc. These organizations and coaches are winners - bad drafts, personnel
decisions and hiring decisions can cripple an organization and a few
shrewd moves can catapult one. The abysmal draft and FA record by
Casserly and the hiring of Dom, together with the failure to take Vince or Reggie, will likely prevent this team from being what it should be for a long time.
Having said that, Mathis, Ryans, Spencer, Robinson, Johnson, Babin, Peak and Williams are a good start, but we still need 2 safeties, a corner, 2 more LBs, 2 DLs, 4 Ols, 2RBs and a QB. Hard to get that in any less than 3-4 years
Vince beat Indy and Carr has never even come close. Why is Sage not considered a starting quarterback? It seems Carr has the tools (good arm, descent speed) but as we can clearly see an NFL QB needs the mental ability to be good in this league.

Sage is out for the season. Is Ragone still on the roster???
