I don't care that it is only the 2nd game. I don't care that Cecil is in his first full season as ML manager. YOU DON'T GIVE AWAY AN OUT in that situation. WHY, WHY, WHY would you call for Mark Loretta to bunt in the 6th inning, down 2-0 with nobody out and runners on 1st and 2nd!!!
That is just a flat-out mistake. It is a dumb move. I'm not calling Cooper dumb, but it is a dumb move. Baseball is not measured in time, but rather in outs. DO NOT GIVE AWAY OUTS. The result is insignificant (FYI - Loretta popped up to the catcher). The desired result is an out. That makes no sense in the 6th inning. You need 3 runs to win the game and there are 2 guys on base and the pitcher has been unable to record an out. Why would you make his job easier?
There is a time and place for the sacrifice bunt. My opinion is to use it very rarely and that is merely my opinion, others would opt for it more often and I'll agree there are times for it and to that point I would not debate, nor create a stir.

Now on to the team itself. If the Astros were beaten 4-0 by Jake Peavy and then 2-1 by Chris Young and those games were played in July, rather than the opening 2 games of the season, then it would not be a big deal. The pitching has been fine, both starters and bullpen, although playing at Petco Park and facing the Padres are both factors worth noting. Oswalt admitted he had nothing but a fastball and Backe made one bad pitch, which resulted in a 2-run HR, the only runs he allowed.
Michael Bourn is 1st in the NL is stolen bases (3), 1st in bases on balls (3) and 1st in outfield assists (1).

The Rockets nearly escaped Sacramento with a win. In some regards they deserved the win. They destroyed the Kings on the boards, grabbing 21 offensive rebounds. They hit the FT at an 80% clip.
In some regards they did not. The allowed yet another opponent to shoot better than 50%. Their final two possessions, prior to the last-second gm-winning attempt from McGrady, consisted of Chuck Hayes backing down his man and throwing up a lefty hook shot and Rafer Alston driving wildly toward the basket throwing up a shot that hit backboard only and resulted in a jump ball, that somehow Rafer (6'2") lost to Mikki Moore (6'11").
Had they played more wisely and confidently in the game's final minutes, they probably still would have grabbed the victory.
