Rockets clinch, Astros win just 2 in 1st week

Even though it doesn't mean squat towards postseason success, it's downright amazing that the Rockets have accomplished what they have it '07-08. Their win over the Clippers to close out a 3-2 road trip clinched a playoff berth and also matched last year's win total. Here are some of numbers that amaze me...
16-6 without Yao Ming.
37-9 in '08. Best record in the NBA. (next best is Utah 34-10)
22 consecutive wins - 2nd greatest streak in NBA history.
12 consecutive wins on the road - greatest streak in team history.

Wandy Rodriguez gets to start the home opener on Monday and the Astros kinda need a win. They won once each in San Diego and Chicago. Four of their 1st 7 games were decided by 1 run, they lost three of them.
- The bullpen ERA of 4.67 is bad, but not horrible for 7 games. Only Geoff Geary has allowed fewer hits than innings pitched. Their batting average against is .361, last in the majors.
- The team is hitting .218 (15th).
- Only the Astros, Giants and Rockies' starters failed to register a win in the opening week.

Do I really need to mention Kyle Lohse has yet to allow a run this season in 2 starts for St. Louis? A pitcher the Astros deemed to expensive signed a very reasonable 1 year, roughly $5 million contract. Livan Hernandez is 2-0 for Minnesota (although to be fair, I advocated taking a pass on him.

The Orioles Matt Albers and Dennis Sarfate are combined 2-0, have not allowed a run in 6.1 innings, while striking out 6 and walking just one. Taylor Buchholz is also 1-0 for Colorado. Chad Qualls pitched in 4 of the D'backs first 6 games - he's yet to allow a run.

Sunday night baseball on the Worldwide Leader. They mic'd the home plate ump. He got smashed in the head with a heater. They replayed the audio. It's not safe for work--not once, but twice. Listen in...
