All season long I said the most talented team in the country was Memphis. Although when it came to tournament time, I was like most people I just felt something would go wrong for them in the tourney - a bad day - or free throw disaster. I was simply looking at their draw and figuring out a way for them to lose. (For the record, I pegged Stanford to do it, thus preventing an all #1 seed Final Four - DOH!!!)
Since I never believed that Memphis would win the title, my choice from day one had been - believe it or not - Kansas. To me they were the deepest most talented team in college basketball. They have several go-to guys, Brandon Rush has elevated his play in the tourney and they are poised to win-it-all now.
The way I decided to analyze is this - if both teams play their best, then Memphis wins. Roberts could've 40 against UCLA if they needed it - Rose, too. I think their play dictates this game and I expect it to be stellar again. Kansas was tested against Davidson, which was exactly what they needed headed into their game with UNC. It had to be a little disheartening to see how they nearly crumbled when Carolina came back, but they recovered.
Memphis has been on the cusp of this for several years under Coach Calipari - they get it done tonight. Mind you I am saying this after turning my brackets that had a Kansas championship. So either way I'll be right - I guess you could say that, but things change after I've seen Kansas and Memphis play their 5 tournament games.
