Astros start as they finished, Sylvia Blind Date

The last game before the All-Star break was a combined shutout from Brandon Backe and Chris Sampson. The first game after the break was a near match with a combined 4-hitter from Brian Moehler and Geoff Geary in a 2-1 win. The major difference is the Backe game came against the worst team in the big leagues, while the Moehler game was against the best team in the National League.

Houston is now 8-5 in games started by Brian Moehler (37-46 in all other games.) He's allowed 3 runs or fewer in 10 of his 13 starts and now boasts a 3.72 ERA as a starter. He was masterful once again, keeping the Cubs off balance and really the home run he allowed to Jim Edmonds wasn't even a bad pitch.

It's pretty simple, the guy throws strikes. He's also the Astros toughest starter against right-handed hitters, allowing just a .230 average. That would rank 12th in the NL - behind All-Stars Edinson Volquez, Ryan Dempster, Dan Haren & Carlos Zambrano.

Rockets lost their Friday summer league game in OT to Denver. So what.

Donte Greene had 19 points giving at least 17 in all 3 games. Joey Dorsey was a beast again, throwing people to the floor when necessary and he grabbed 13 more rebounds including 7 offensive boards.

Aaron Brooks was bad in their first game and spectacular in game 3 with 25 points and ten assists. I had a chance to watch most of the second half and if I were to guess I'd say at least half of assists if not more led to dunks for Dorsey and Greene. His final assist went to the other 2008 draftee, Maarty Leunen, who drained the game-tying 3 pointer to send the game into overtime.

We talked MMA for a full hour Friday night on the show with Jared Barnes who handles the brawl sports blog at chron.com. He suggested we all get a good laugh by taking in Tim Sylvia's appearance on Blind Date. Wildly hilarious. Enjoy.
